Self-Publishing: An Update.

“printer” by ilker. Downloaded from stock.xchng (http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1002670).

I own and maintain three websites (two for work, and a personal blog), and one of the first things I do after turning my laptop on is check all three sites’ stats. For The Reading Spree, I noticed that my two-year-old post on self-publishing keeps getting hits from both the Philippines and other countries. Within the past two years, more self-publishing companies have gotten my attention, and some have already closed their doors or changed names. Yes, it’s time for an updated directory.

Most of these publishing services are in my previous list, but I found and added a few more (thanks, Google!). There are many other self-publishing companies and services that aren’t included in this list; it’s advisable that you also do your own online search and thoroughly read the reviews, recommendations and warnings that all self-publishing services get from authors and publishers.

This update also includes publishing companies that do both traditional and digital books, and some provide editorial/design/file conversion/copyright registration services and help authors out with ISBNs, marketing, author site hosting and distribution. Central Books and Bronze Age Media also hold writing and publishing workshops.

Of course, you can do everything on your own (especially if you want to do digital publishing) to cut costs and get all the profits, but if you don’t have the time to go through the whole print book/e-book production process, it would be best to go with a print-on-demand (POD) company.

If you know of POD firms and online resources that should be on this list, please let me know! Drop me a line at thereadingspree (at) gmail (dot) com. ūüôā
